Color: White Charlie is our only intact male. He is cuddly, sweet and a little bit small for an average male poodle, but we still love him! He's a bouncy goof! More info on Charlie here. |

Color: Black Grace is Lucy's daughter and was born here! She loves to cuddle and is a very loving dog. She also likes to smile when she is happy. What a dork! More info on Grace here. |
Grace Pregnant
Birth Story
Usually I have a few hours notice when my dogs are going to give birth. Not Grace. She was as cool as a cucumber. Hanging out. Walking around. Then I noticed she was panting a bit so we decided to pull out the birthing equipment. As Dave was carrying the bins up the stairs I noticed Grace squatting and pushing. We quickly got everything ready thinking that we would still have a while to go.
Dave went upstairs to shower while I was comforting Grace in the whelping pen. 20 minutes later Dave called me from the bathroom to ask how things were going and just like that the first puppy started to make it's grand entrance! She miraculously gave birth to 10 healthy puppies in just over 4 hours. The last puppy was touch and go for a while but our farm hand Kali was assisting and stimulated the puppy for about 30-40 minutes and got it going! All puppies lived and are healthy and strong. And.. well... all born on Canada Day!

A Really Sad Story
First I would like to say a few things.
I am very transparent when it comes to my dogs. I do not hide things. I sell my puppies to families knowing that I am sending them home with healthy, happy dogs. When shit hits then fan, you know about it. It sucks. It happens. With every breeder, it will happen, but most just keep things quiet because they don't want it to hurt their reputation. BUT being sneaky ruins reputations. I will not hide it from you, but I also appreciate respect by doing this.
Another thing I would like to highlight...
Lucy is not an aggressive dog. She is very much a submissive dog. After speaking with a vet they have advised me that Lucy's random obscure behavior likely was a result of stress of puppies being around and also being in heat.

August 12 2020
I am here with some unfortunate news.
The last few days have been no more than a complete nightmare for me and my husband. It has been one of the most challenging and horrific things we have experienced and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone.
On Sunday at 7am my husband let Bogart, Lucy and Grace out into the yard for a pee and then added the puppies into the area with them so they could play.
My husband was not aware that Lucy had been starting to show some rough play with the puppies since her heat cycle started last week and I had her separated from the puppies. I was asleep in bed and I woke to loud puppy screams. When we ran outside there was 1 puppy dead (Luke) and another injured (Bobbie).
I proceeded with CPR to Luke for about 30 minutes but he was already gone. We buried Luke under our fruit trees in our yard.
We had our friend come get the injured puppy and rush him to the emergency vet. He stayed overnight for observation. He had pain meds, antibiotics, xrays, ultrasounds, IV fluids etc. He has 4 broken ribs and a puncture wound to the chest. He was able to come home Monday under our close care. He is doing very well.
Monday after bringing Bobbie back home we decided it was best to pack everyone up to our cottage and go off the grid for a few days to clear our head of the trauma. We packed up the kids, puppies and dogs and made arrangements for our farm to be taken care of while we were gone.
At the cottage we have 2 screened in decks on either side of the house. Puppies on one side, big dogs on the other. On the puppy side the door was a little flimsy so we put a large bag of dog food in a container and placed it in front of the door so the puppies couldn't push the door from the bottom.
Tuesday morning I brought Grace in to feed her puppies. Then we got ready to go outside. Dave let the other dogs out for a pee and almost immediately I heard a puppy scream. Dave ran out to see one of the puppies had somehow pushed through the door and had been sitting on the deck stairs. Lucy ran to the puppy, grabbed her quickly, then took off. She was gasping for air. I ran outside breaking down the door to get to them, grabbed the puppy from Dave and again started with CPR. She passed away in my arms shortly after. She had a puncture wound in her chest again.
We decided to go back home. I cried the whole drive home. I called Lauren, the owners of this beautiful puppy (Rosie) and told her the heartbreaking news. We buried her with Luke under the fruit trees.
I'm not really sure where to go from here. This is me pouring my heart out to everyone completely devastated by this series of events. Lucy has never once shown aggression. My son literally naps on her while she naps. She raised 4 litters of puppies, including one of our dogs Grace. She is a cuddly loving dog who loves to squeak toys, get belly rubs and knock things off the table with her tail. My 18 month old son can literally take food out of her mouth while she is eating it and she doesn't even bat an eye. She is not the mother of this litter, but she is the grandmother of this litter. She IS in heat which is when her behavior changed. She has also never had puppies around her that aren't her own.
I cannot understand any of this. I don't even know how to proceed. I need time to think. I need time to process. I need time to heal. I put my heart and soul into these puppies and a piece of me has been ripped out by this loss. It is unimaginable for me.
I hope you all can forgive me and trust me.
From the bottom of my heart and the depths of my soul I am sorry. Such a waste of 2 beautiful lives.
