Birth Story
1:30 am came and we decided to go to bed.
4:30 am December 1st I woke up because Audrey was pacing. So I got up with her and did my thing while her symptoms progressed.
By 7:30 am Audrey was starting to push but nothing was happening. She was shaking and BEGGING to go outside for a poop! (But we knew it wasn't a poop coming).
At 8:30 I called the vet worried that nothing was happening. They reassured me and after I hung up it was just minutes away from the big moment...
At 8:45 am she finally started to push and I saw a little nub poking out! 2 pushes later the very first puppy of Dobbit's Standard Poodles was born!! Woohoo! We were over the moon! A cream female, a little spawn of Audrey herself! I was in love!
She then gave birth to 2 more puppies in the next hour. She took an hour break and had 3 more in an hour. She took an hour and a half break (at this point we thought she might be done) but then 2 more popped out! The last puppy was born at 1:31pm. She was exhaused. 5 hours of labor!
After 2 hours passed she continued to have contractions and nest. I thought for sure there was another puppy stuck in there. I called Dr. Carnegy and they told me to come in just in case.
So we packed up the car at 4:30 pm during rush hour traffic and made the over an hour drive to the vet. Dave nursed the puppies in the car while I drove. It was quite an ordeal.
We got to the vet, they took an x-ray to make sure all the puppies were out and we got the good news that she was good and no puppies were left behind! PHEW!
Then we headed home... and.. happily ever after!
